Electronic Earnings Statement — Meet ELENA
ELENA is here and currently causes duplicate work, and even more trouble with data protection authorities. Nevertheless, there is no way around ELENA, the electronic earnings statement. Reason enough for Impulse to publish an article on ELENA in December 2010. Whether you need a Steuerberater (German Certified Tax Advisor) for this, and whether dealing with ELENA is straightforward — which it is not necessarily — is explained by the head of our accounting and financial bookkeeping department, Katharina Kolhep, who is quoted in the article. One question, however, remains unanswered: who is liable for incorrect information.

Goose and Dance
"In the morning the sun shines on me, and in the evening the moon. What shines on you is entirely irrelevant to me" — so reads a letter to the tax office. That evening, we had occasion to report on this and several other curiosities from the legal and tax advisory profession. We enjoyed an excellent autumn goose dinner and completed a short dance lesson. It appears to just.bocholt that, despite our line of work, things are not at all dry around here. A few photos in the accompanying article may serve as evidence. It seems to us — or rather, we hope — that it was a successful client event.

Home Office Tax-Free
The Federal Constitutional Court (Az. 2 BvL 13/09) has ruled that the treatment of the home office violates the German Constitution. As a result, you should file an appeal against your tax assessment. A Deadly Tax Audit
Typical: it's the premiere, the opening, and the premiere DVD that the chef and guests are eagerly awaiting is locked inside a car — together with the only key. Before that, five months of daily production work. An artist juggling appointments, and an entire tax advisory group working through the nights as well — most of the time, at least. The result was our crime story "Die Blonde und der Betriebsprüfer" ("The Blonde and the Tax Auditor"), and on the premiere evening the DVD was, in the end, shown in the newly opened conference room after all. Word evidently got around: in October 2009, Steuerberater Magazin reported on the event, the film, and how it came to be.

Price Paid for Goodwill No Longer Deductible
Whether and to what extent goodwill paid for the purchase of a medical practice is deductible is described by Johannes Rudolph in his article for Ärzteblatt in April 2007. One thing in advance: current developments appear to jeopardise deductibility.
